Watercolor Windows to the World
As you can see from this collection - spanning back to the late 1980’s - landscapes capturing sun-kissed tree foliage, the softness of a freshly fallen snow, or the glistening waters of a mountain stream have been the subject of some of the artist's most prolific work. Lucy Slezycki is a true master of the fascinating transparency of the watercolor medium.

Born in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, Lucy is the product of a middle class upbringing who was exposed to oil painting classes by Harry L. Hickman as a teenager in Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania. One marriage and four children later, she returned to her artistic pursuits, taking classes taught by Mary Anne Clark. It was during this period in the late 70’s and early 80’s that she became enamored with watercolor as a medium, taking cues on the craft from local art teachers at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts such as Bill Vrscak, Joe Eiser, Bill Retig, and Bill Perry.
Over the years, Lucy has received some 50+ awards for her work, including several 1st place, “Best in Show”, and “Purchase” awards, among others. Her paintings have been included in numerous Pittsburgh area exhibits including, but not limited to, the Gallery at Penn State (main campus), and the Saxonburg Festival of the Arts. She was also a judge in the international “Aqueous” exhibit held annual by the Pittsburgh Watercolor Society.
In 2000, she reproduced painted fabric motifs commercially, which were screen printed on fashion garments for New York fashion house Dawn Jay’s “RJ Collection”.
Lucy is a member of the East Suburban Art Society, the Pittsburgh Watercolor Society, and the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. She does the occasional oil portrait on a commission basis, but watercolor has always been her first love. As you can see from this collection spanning back to the late 80’s, landscapes, capturing sun-kissed tree foliage, the softness of a freshly fallen snow, or the glistening waters of a mountain stream in the fascinating transparency of the watercolor medium have been the subject of some of Lucy Slezycki’s most prolific work.
